Amplify Church, thank you for your gift to build a new well at Bunyukhe Child Development Center in Busia, Uganda. Your gift is bringing hope and healing to families living in extreme poverty. Safe and potable water will soon be accessible for 3,000 children and their families in this community. We’re pleased to bring you an update from Uganda.

Implementation Progress
The intervention was designed to address the challenges associated with limited access to safe water at the Bunyukhe Child Development Center. These challenges make effective holistic child development programming difficult and ultimately have a negative effect on the children’s health and well-being.
Once the funds were received, the church met to determine their capacity to implement the intervention. As a result, the church formed a committee that would oversee the entire project, including hiring contractors and purchasing materials. The committee, with the help of the local chairperson, presented the plan to the community, setting clear expectations and ensuring their understanding while also mobilizing support and additional resources.
So far, the team has completed drilling the well, testing the pump, constructing the control room, excavating the trench, and installing the tank and electromechanical works, including the fencing. The next steps include laying the pipes, completing the public access point, and conducting an operation and maintenance training, which will be presented by technical experts.

As the project progresses, it is increasingly evident that these initiatives are poised to make a profound and enduring impact on the community’s access to safe water and overall well-being.
The establishment of secure water systems completely aligns with Compassion Uganda’s strategic goal of extending safe water supplies to its church partners. The long-term vision underlying this endeavor is to offer a sustainable solution to the persistent challenges associated with limited water access, which have perpetuated water-related illnesses.
Thanks to your gift that provides clean and safe water, the participants at Bunyukhe Child Development Center will experience remarkable improvements in their physical development. The ability to adopt proper hygiene and sanitation practices, including regular hand-washing, will significantly reduce their susceptibility to waterborne diseases and infections, and contribute to their overall well-being.
With deep gratitude for this intervention, the Busia community will be liberated from the arduous task of searching for water, a burden that has disproportionately affected children and women. This newfound access to safe water will enable the community to shift their focus toward other critical developmental endeavors, such as education and economic empowerment, thereby fostering improved livelihoods and overall well-being.
