The following is a translated letter from a mother that benefits from the Tamboril Child Survival Program near Santiago, Dominican Republic.
Dear Friends,
How are you?
My name is Yamalí Montero Cabrera, and I am very grateful to the Child Survival Program and to my implementer, Brunilda Quezada. I am 21 years old and I live with my two daughters, Genesis who is 1, and Yinauri who is 4. My house is very small and has one bedroom and a living room. I live in the neighborhood called Boca de Maizal, in Andy street. It is a very peaceful area regarding delinquency but the motorcyclists drive very fast on the streets. The streets are unpaved and there is a lot of mud when it rains. All my neighbors are very kind and I like my community.
I am not working at the moment but the monthly amount of RD$ 2,800 (equivalent to $60.90 USD) that the children’s father sends me covers our basic needs.
My daughter, Génesis Jiménez, is in good health and has only had flu sometimes. She is very cheerful, enjoys eating a lot and puts her hands everywhere. She likes playing with her dolls, and with the cat that lives in the house.
I hope that she will grow up to be a good child, and that she may be a professional in the future, and that I will be able to see her growing up.
I am feeling very happy, and satisfied, with the way that I have been helped through home visits, and through the food and medication that I have received. I have appreciated the unconditional help that I have received from other mothers, when they are able to do something.
I give thanks firstly to God, and then to yourselves, for helping so many mothers, and for playing your part in this Program. I ask that you please pray for my daughters and my home, and that God will grant us good health.
May God bless you!
Yamalí Montero
