Update on Your Support of Babies in Togo, Part 2

February 22, 2023

Hélène and her daughter, Afi (from Eglise de la Grande Commission TG0604), received food and baby supplies from the Survival program.

Thank you, Church at Brook Hills! Your great generosity is helping babies to survive the crucial first 12 months of life, when they are most vulnerable to illness and hunger. At four churches in Togo, your support is providing proper nutrition, access to medical care and a broad range of life-saving pre- and postnatal support for both infants and their mothers. You are ensuring babies born into crippling poverty have the opportunity to thrive, setting them on the path to a healthy, happy childhood.

Mothers have the comfort of knowing that they will receive comprehensive support as they navigate the first year of their baby’s life, with breastfeeding assistance, regular growth monitoring and supplemental food and vitamins. They are empowered by staff to care for their babies and themselves. Thank you for making all this possible.

This report includes updates on Survival activities at:

  • Eglise de la Grande Commission (TG0604)
  • Eglise de la Grande Commission (TG0606)
  • Eglise Methodiste du Togo (TG0822)
  • Eglise Evangelique Presbyterienne (TG0926)

Currently, a total of 75 babies and their mothers are receiving care at these centers.

A Letter From Souleya, a Caregiver at Eglise Evangelique Presbyterienne (TG0926)

Dear Friends,

May the peace and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!

My name is Souleya, and I am a high school student. My son’s name is Rodolphe, and we are registered for the Survival program at Eglise Evangelique Presbyterienne. It is a great joy for me to have the opportunity to express my thanks to the sponsors who made it possible for us to be in this program.

I registered for the Survival program when I was six months pregnant. I was in high school, and my parents didn’t have the means to support me and my baby. After I registered for the program, the center covered my prenatal health consultations. Also, when my son had an injury that required rehab, the center paid for his medical care. We also received food and hygiene kits, and I have been able to participate in group activities and trainings that have helped me mature and grow as a parent.

On behalf of myself and the other parents in the program, I would like to thank the donors and sponsors for the support they have provided, especially in these uncertain times. I pray the Lord remembers you and watches over your family.

Sincerely,

Souleya

Survival Spotlight: Income Generation and Education

Parents, especially mothers, are critical to effective intervention on behalf of vulnerable babies and young children. Educating primary caregivers sets those little ones on a path toward healthy development — which is why the Survival program incorporates a holistic, long-term strategy into its approach. That strategy is designed to equip mothers to care for their families and themselves, and engage their community, with a healthy, biblical perspective. The program helps these women develop their minds through literacy lessons. It teaches them critical parenting and child development skills, as well as how to implement them when children are most vulnerable to disease and malnutrition. It also equips them to provide for their families through contextually relevant occupational training that enables them to generate income. The discovery of newfound talents and capabilities builds their self-esteem, helping them grow into confident women who now have the knowledge and capacity to move forward in life. It paves the way for them become the people God intended them to be.

Thank You for Your Partnership!

Church at Brook Hills, your gifts are making it possible for mothers and babies to experience a tangible expression of God’s love for them. May god bless you richly!
