We are so excited to be sharing a report of the kitchen and dining facilities you have partnered with Compassion to build for children in Nairobi, Kenya.
Thanks to your support, the KAG Githunguchu Church has been able to complete the construction of kitchen and dining room, as part of a larger intervention to build kitchens and dining rooms at seven centers, benefiting over 2000 children across Kenya. Your support made this project possible at the KAG Githunguchu Church. Construction began in August, 2018, and the community will soon hold an inauguration to celebrate its opening.
The staff and church members at this center have been working hard to complete this project. They hired contractors, purchased supplies, and held a groundbreaking ceremony. As construction began, the workers cleared land, laid foundations, built walls and roofs, and installed doors, windows, and electrical wiring. Finally, the building was finished with the flooring, plaster, and paint.
These facilities have had a huge impact on the community. This newly clean and enclosed space has improved hygiene and reduced the spread of disease. New locks and storage facilities have reduced loss and theft of kitchen materials. The KAG Githunguchu Church can now easily serve 157 children at a time, and more orderly processes have led to less food waste and spills. The roof of the building is able to now be used for rainwater collection, which is helping provide cleaner water to the community.
The pastor of the church, Paul Mbute, says “We appreciate the good work. Through your support, we were able to build the dining hall and the kitchen structure. The dining hall will be used by the children during the Saturday program, the caregivers meeting, and other church events. This has been very good for us since the children are now able to do their lessons and eat together in a comfortable atmosphere. May the Lord bless you for the support.”
These facilities are so important to this community. The clean rooms reduce the spread of disease, and the new facilities allow the program to run more smoothly. Children are more motivated to come to the center, which is leading to higher education levels and a better quality of life for the children. Thank you for your vital support and care for children in need. Your investment is helping these children live better lives today and countless more children will benefit in the years to come.
May God Bless the ministry of Cedarbrook Community Church!
