Letter From a Caregiver at KAG Githunguchu Church
Greetings Friends,
My name is Julie and I am the mother of a baby girl named Angel. My family lives in a temporary brick-walled house about 0.62 miles from the Survival program at KAG Githunguchu Church. My husband earns income as a laborer and through subsistence farming on our family’s land. I earn income to support our family doing laundry for people, labor, and some farming as well.
Our daughter, Angel was invited to join the Survival program when she was three weeks old. She was my first child and I had very little knowledge on how to be a parent. Survival Specialists visit me on a monthly basis and provide education and tips for caring for her as well as monitor Angel’s weight and growth. The program has provided her with needed immunizations, medicine, and supplements. During an exam, the staff noticed Angel’s weight was low for her age and she was later referred to a cardiologist. After running some tests, the hospital staff determined that her heart was healthy. I am so grateful to God for the good health report, and blessed knowing that through the Survival program, her health will continue to be monitored. The cost for the hospital visit was more than we could afford but the Survival program paid for everything.
Workshops and classes offered through Survival have taught me ways to prepare balanced and nutritious meals, the importance of breastfeeding, and other helpful information to better care for my child. One very practical workshop taught me new techniques to grow a vegetable garden. Today, I no longer have to buy vegetables because I can just pick what I need from my garden.
I am incredibly blessed to get to share with other women in the program. Hearing other mother’s stories about challenging issues and difficult circumstances have reinforced my thankfulness for the care provided by the Survival program. I am grateful to God for the opportunity to be a part of Survival in my community.
May Almighty God richly reward you because of your support for this ministry.
Blessings,
Julia
