Greetings, Cedarbrook Community Church! Your generous support of Compassion’s Survival program at KAG Githunguchu Church in central Kenya, is helping remove obstacles that stand in the way of babies’ healthy development. You are providing them with everything they need to reach their first birthday as thriving infants, ready to begin their journey out of poverty and start learning about the world around them.
Currently, 15 babies and their moms are participating in this Survival program. Since the last update, the mothers and babies have continued to benefit from comprehensive care, life-changing education and practical assistance that will improve babies’ health outcomes, encourage healthy brain development and support physical growth. The babies can look forward to a bright future as a cherished part of the Compassion family, and the mothers can be confident that their precious child will receive everything they need to grow strong and healthy.

A Letter From Margaret, a Caregiver at KAG Githunguchu Church
Dear Sponsors,
I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. My family and I thank God that we are doing well, and we trust that you are also doing well.
Being accepted into the Survival program during my pregnancy was an answer to my prayers! I have always admired the women in my village who participated in this program, so it is an honor to now be named among them. We are thankful to the Lord for the transformation and empowerment we’ve experienced in the program.
The Survival Specialists visited me at home, encouraged me to attend prenatal visits, and ensured I ate well and stayed healthy while pregnant. When it was time to deliver, the specialists attended my birth and made sure I had everything I needed. The staff continued to visit me after my daughter was born, making sure breastfeeding was going well, and that I was taking my baby for immunizations.
I continue to attend classes and fellowship with other mothers at the program. In addition to different trainings on entrepreneurship, health education and the Bible, we also receive nutritious foods to supplement our diets. My baby has been responding well to a more nutritious diet.
I lack words to express my gratitude for what this program has done for me and my family. Thank you so much for your great support that makes it possible. May the good Lord bless you abundantly. Glory to him for enabling me to be a part of this. I am extremely grateful.
Sincerely,
Margaret

Survival Program Spotlight: Home Visits
Compassion Survival Specialists play a vital role in reinforcing program content so participants can begin integrating their new skills and learnings into their daily lives. Through monthly visits, Survival Specialists offer emotional and social support for both the mother and the child. The one-on-one time allows for more individualized attention and provides an extra measure of personal connection and accountability.
During these visits, the specialists check the home environment for any risks or dangers. They offer additional training in any areas the mothers may need, from breastfeeding best practices to parenting skill review. They also lead the mothers through Bible studies, encouraging church attendance and involvement. They end their time by praying with and for these moms, always inviting the Lord into this time, and always pointing them toward a deeper relationship with him.
