Helping Babies Reach Their First Birthday
Mark and Elisabeth, we are so grateful for your support of Compassion Survival in Mtwivila, Iringa, Tanzania. Sadly, around the world, more than 7,000 children die each day within the first year of life, mostly from preventable causes(1). Thanks to your gracious giving, babies served by Compassion Survival have a greater likelihood of reaching their first birthday. Your generosity enables the staff at PAG Mtwivila Student Center to provide critical care to its community’s children at the time of life when they need it the most — at the very beginning! We are pleased to share this update on recent activities at the center and the transformation you have made possible for families. We hope you feel as blessed by this report as they have been by your investment.

- New and expectant mothers participate in a sewing class with a teacher. Training for mothers is provided at many church-based centers. The training provides mothers with a skill to generate income. Training is based on the local context.
- A doctor examines an infant. He checks the child’s height and weight for signs of malnutrition and recommends treatment if necessary. If the child is found to have an illness, the doctor will also prescribe appropriate medicine.
- A tutor leads mothers in a spiritual formation class. Not only do mothers benefit from Bible study, they enjoy their time together, building important relationships with each other.
- Mothers show off their recent accomplishments: embroidered sheets and table cloths. As their skills develop, so does their self esteem and confidence.
