AIC Kanzinwa Survival Update | Fall 2022

September 20, 2022

Photo above: Caregivers harvest vegetables from their shared garden. They will sell the produce to generate income for their families.

Thank you for your continued support of the Africa Inland Church (AIC) Kanzinwa Child Deveopment Center. Since our last update, these caregivers in southeastern Kenya have continued to develop themselves. They are strengthening their knowledge in vegetable gardening and are using this skill to earn some income and grow their own food. Many also participate in the center’s community savings group, learning the value and discipline of saving. Each of these activities supports a healthy and stable home life that allows their little ones to flourish.

Growing as a Caregiver Through Compassion Survival

Dear Friends,

Greetings to you from the Survival caregivers of AIC Kanzinwa. My name is Rhoda, and I am the mother of Blessing. I do not take for granted the opportunity to write this letter to you. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the kind support that you have shown to me and my fellow Survival mothers and our babies. I am happy to share that both mothers and babies are all doing well. We are so grateful for God’s mercies and grace.

I joined this program when I was eight months pregnant and now my baby is already eleven months! This time has been such a blessing. I have learned much during this period, starting with preparing to receive my bundle of joy, and then taking care of her after she arrived. I learned the importance of communicating with Blessing, even while she was in my womb, and how important it was to prepare myself to welcome her. I learned how important it was to get Blessing immunized for the sake of her future health. I also learned the importance of hygiene for my baby and my entire family. Now I do not have to visit the hospital as frequently because of hygiene issues. This has helped me a lot.

In addition, I have received so much support from the center. My family can afford to eat three meals in a day through the nutritional supplements that are given to us. We are now healthy and eat a balanced diet. I also learned skills to generate income. The center offers a community saving and loaning group and another for vegetable growing. These have been so nice. I have learned how to save money and grow vegetables to sell. I also have a vertical farming bag at home to serve as my small kitchen garden, where I get fresh vegetables for my family.

The other mothers and I are so grateful for your kind support, and we pray that God will continue to bless you and always provide for you. We would like to encourage you with a Bible verse from 2 Corinthians 9: 6-8 (NIV), “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

Many blessings to you and may God bless you always.

Yours faithfully,

Rhoda
