Thriving With the Help of a Supportive Community
Dear Friends,
I am so happy and grateful to God for giving me life and the opportunity to be in this Survival program. My name is Florence, and I am Joy’s mother. I am a born-again Christian and a committed member of African Inland Church. I am from the eastern region of Kenya. My husband and I have been married six years. We live in a small house with our son Nashon and baby Joy. My in-laws live nearby, and they work as pastors at a local church. I always appreciate them for they have been of great help in my spiritual growth.
In our house there two small rooms, and I mostly use firewood to cook for the family. We thank God for his provision, even in hard times. Insufficient rainfall in our area has made life hard. Rearing animals is challenging in these conditions, but I thank God that I have managed to keep three chickens and two goats. I pray that there will be enough rainfall so my animals can find grass.
My husband does casual jobs to support our family. He knows how to weld, but we don’t have a power source so he is unable to work continuously. He always tries to look for other day jobs. On a good day, he makes $2 per day. I know God is going to open doors for him, to the glory of his name.
I am grateful for the Survival program at Kathonzweni Child Development Center. The center staff has been so supportive by providing us with food supplements and continuous trainings on childcare and nutrition. I am planning to learn a skill soon so I can look for a job. This will help me support my husband with meeting our family’s needs.
My prayer is that Joy will grow well and continue to enjoy her birthdays that fall on December 25. I have great hopes that she will excel in all she does.
Thank you so much for your support and prayers. May God bless you.
Yours faithfully,
Florence
