An Opportunity to Launch a New Compassion Center in Peru
Helping Children Grow to Be All God Intends
A gift to launch a new child development center with a Compassion church partner opens up a world of hope for children in desperate circumstances. By removing obstacles that hinder their future, you can help release children from poverty in Jesus’ name.
At a new child development center being launched by Iglesia Evangelica Bautista in Peru, children will benefit from opportunities that would otherwise be out of their reach. Program activities encourage healthy growth — spiritually, physically, socially, emotionally and economically — and children are invited to participate early in their lives when the program can benefit them most.
Tailored according to age, gender, health, culture and family situations, the programs change as children’s needs change. Against the harsh context of poverty, the nurturing environment at the church-based centers foster self-reliance, resilience and a spirit of service. Children are equipped to become disciples of Christ and achieve a fulfilling life.
Your gift will equip a church with the resources to:
-
Hire and train center staff.
-
Make appropriate building modifications to accommodate program activities.
-
Purchase necessary supplies, such as office equipment and classroom furnishings.
-
Conduct initial health assessments of the registered children.
-
Acquire learning materials.
In addition, your gift contributes to the Unsponsored Children’s Fund (UCF) and Medical Assistance Fund (MED). Through UCF, churches will have the financial means to provide care for each registered child until support from a loving sponsor is available. And if a child needs medical attention, MED funds will make it possible for the church to access appropriate treatment.
Compassion is planning to launch 271 new centers globally through June 2022, registering approximately 160,100 children. Launching one child development center serving 150 children costs an average of $25,000. Once that initial sum has been invested, sponsors are matched with each child, creating a sustainable program, resulting in a lifetime value of $480,000. Thank you for considering this opportunity to transform the lives of children in Peru.
About the Church Partner
Iglesia Evangelica Bautista is a Compassion church partner in the Canas Province of the Cusco Region of Peru. The church is in a rural area of the southern highlands of Peru. A community health center in Canas Province reports that 60% of children suffer from chronic malnutrition. The most common diseases in children under age 5 are pneumonia and chronic malnutrition. There are no state or private hospitals in this area and community health centers are understaffed. The unemployment rate is approximately 80%. Most adults in the area work in agriculture and raise small animals.
Compassion aims to reach the poorest of the poor and children who are living in the most extreme poverty. The 150 children who are expected to participate in the initial opening of this program will learn about God’s unconditional love for them. They will have the opportunity to grow as part of a supportive and faithful community that holds every child as a special gift. The churches we work with put healthy child development at the center of their ministry and spread Christ's love and hope among those who need it most.
A gift of $22,815.80* equips the church to provide holistic child development activities that help improve long-term outcomes for children.
*Includes UCF and MED, administration and fundraising costs commensurate with Compassion’s corporate guidelines.
